Adopt-a-Shelf Program
We deal in quantities–big quantities– in order to feel nearly 130 people each day. For example, it takes at least 40 cans of a vegetable to make enough for a side dish at lunch. When we make our homemade egg salad, it takes 15 dozen eggs.
We rely heavily on the generosity of individuals and groups who donate pantry items. Figuring in our donations from individuals and area businesses we are able to serve a hot lunch for about 25 cents!
Yet, from time to time, especially during the summer months, our pantry gets emptier than we like. We recently began our Adopt-a-Shelf program in hopes of keeping the pantry shelves full year-round.
Here’s how it works:
You can call our Resource and Volunteer Coordinator, Alaina Gelbert, at 345-9786 to find out what are the most crucial items needed based on our current and projected needs. You can take that information back to your group and decided what item and what quantity of the item you could provide. For instance, your group might be able to sponsor us for 200 jars of spaghetti sauce, or help us stock our shelves with the larger restaurant-sized cans of items that can be purchased at warehouse stores at cheaper prices.
